SMS communication

In this article, we'll walk you through how to set up and edit the SMS communication settings. This is where you control the text messages Checkmate sends to your candidates and referees.

  1. While signed in to your Checkmate account, click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

  2. Click Company Settings.

  3. Click the Branding tab.

  4. Click on the three-dot menu and choose Edit to open the brand editor.

  5. Click SMS to manage your candidate text message settings.

  6. Use this toggle to turn SMS on or off for this brand.
    The SMS Communication toggle allows you to turn text messages on and off for this brand. In most cases you'll want to leave this on.

  7. When SMS is on, a green dot appears next to the SMS icon in the sidebar.

  8. Switch on Customisation to write your own message.
    When Customisation is off, Checkmate uses its standard SMS template.

  9. Click inside the template to edit your message.
    Keep your message under 160 characters.

  10. Type @ to insert a personalisation variable.

  11. To remove a variable, click the cross next to it.

  12. The preview updates as you type, so you can see exactly how your message will look before you save.

  13. You can also toggle on and edit your Referee SMS template here.

  14. Click Save once you are happy with your changes.
